An exciting new program about our rich musical Minnesota heritage!
Tim Cheesebrow and Fred Keller bring the musical history of MN to life through songs and activities that keep students engaged and curious. Each lesson has a unique historical focus, and was designed in partnership with MN teachers to meet state standards and benchmarks.
Lessons come with preparatory activities so you can get your students ready for the big day when Tim and Fred come to teach the lesson. There are activities for students to do, project starters to carry the learning forward, assessments and follow up activities so it’s a snap to plug this program into any MN curriculum.

About Fred and Tim
Fred Keller has been a professional musician since 1994. His thorough experience as an educator in private lessons, schools, and the library system have allowed him to share his expertise in the musical history of American and European folk styles. An avid historian, Fred resurrects old tunes and writes songs in traditional styles to highlight the human stories that make up our shared history.
Here’s a video of Fred spinning some yarns from MN’s past on his video blog “The Deep North.”
Tim has been a musician since 2000 and and educator since 2004. As the founder of Discover Music, Tim has developed curriculum, trained teachers, and taught classes about the art of songwriting. He’s in the process of completing a master’s degree in educational research. Tim brings his experience to the lesson design process and the classroom to ensure a high quality and developmentally appropriate experience.
